Curriculum Intent
At Loughborough we endeavour to foster pupils’ enthusiasm for learning a language. We recognise that the achievement of full primary entitlement is essential in order for child to be successfully prepared for life in Modern Britain and the twenty first century. Language learning is a ‘liberation from insularity’* and provides a gateway for pupils to other cultures.
Our pupils learn Spanish in key stage two and our younger children are exposed to Spanish through daily instructions or common phrasing. Our high-quality spicalist teaching, sparks pupils’ curiosity and deepens their understanding of the world. Pupils are taught to express their ideas and thoughts in another language and to understand and respond to its speakers, both in speech and in writing. We also encourage pupils to celebrate their native tongue. Pupils are provided with opportunities to communicate for practical purposes, learn new ways of thinking and read from a broad range of texts in the original language.
We also understand that the importance of celebrating diversity and promoting inclusiveness through language learning as pupils discover more about the kind of world they live in and the kind of young adults they would like to become.
